Fishing Lodges in Kenai, Alaska

Are you struggling with trying to find the perfect Alaskan fishing lodge? Picking the right lodge can be a daunting task, considering how many there are and the different prices and packages available. To make your task a little easier, here is a comparison of several of the top lodges in Kenai, one of Alaska’s top destinations for fishing. The list includes a brief summary of what each lodge offers and its rates. The prices quoted are per person for May, June, and August. Most lodges, not all however, raise their rates in July, so if you’re planning your trip for the height of salmon season, plan on spending a little extra.

If you’re looking for a fishing lodge, but still want the comforts of a town, the .406 is for you. Its located in the heart of Kenai and is close to shopping areas, restaurants, the beach, and most importantly, the Kenai River. 32 rooms are available as a single, double, or suite and they come with free local phone calls, cable TV, taxi fare to the airport, and high speed internet. A full service restaurant is on site and freezer space is also available.

The Alaskan Lodge has five cabins near the banks of the Kenai River five miles from downtown Kenai. They rent out rooms in a traditional bed and breakfast style accommodation. You still get access to a fully equipped kitchen, outdoor fire pits, picnic tables, and wireless Internet. They don’t offer any guide services themselves, but they can help book fishing charters and guides and also suggest other activities, such as hunting, hiking, and mountain biking.

Beaver Creek Cabins

Beaver Creek has four cabins located on Beaver Creek several yards away from its confluence with the Kenai River and is close to the famous “Beaver Creek Fishing Hole”. They offer dock space, freezer room, telephone, barbeque, fresh linens, and maid service. No guided services are included in the price, but this keeps the overall cost of a stay here lower than other fishing lodges. They do run a guide service for king salmon that costs between $175 and $295 depending on the month, and will also assist you in finding other charter services.

  • Between $55 and $85 a day (assuming double occupancy)
  • Children under 12 are free

Captain Bligh’s Beaver Creek Lodge

With Captain Bligh, you can book one of five different two or three bedroom cabins all situated on the banks of the lower Kenai River. They are furnished with many anemitites, including a washer/dryer, freezers, outside barbeques, and daily maid service. The lodges are three miles from the town of Kenai, placing them close to the airport and downtown. Guide services for all the major sport fish are offered, but they also offer help booking other activities for your trip, including glacier and whale cruises, clamdigging, beachcombing, and flightseeing. Their staff will also help with advice on where to fish (if you decide to bring your own tackle) hike, take photos, and take the available lodge canoe. Children are welcome here.

Drifters Landing

Drifters Landing is located about halfway between Kenai and Soldotna. Their rooms come with access to a lounge and sauna as well as a large deck overlooking the Kenai River. They provide guided services to both the Kenai and nearby Kasilof River. Packages include eight hours of driftboat fishing, all fishing tackle, lures, and bait, breakfast, lunch, nonalcoholic drinks, fish cleaning, wrapping, freezing, and packaging and pickup and delivery to the airport.

Hi-Lo Charters and Riverside Lodge

Hi-lo has two separate lodges located on Beaver Creek and a 10-minute drive from Kenai and the airport. They have two separate lodges and each unit comes with two rooms, one bath, a full kitchen, and barbeque access. The units usually sleep about four people comfortably. Hi-Lo’s specialty is King Salmon, and they have two in-house king salmon guides for guests and a manager on site to help with booking other activities or charters. Some of the activities they can book for you include, clamdigging, flyouts for fishing, animal watching, or glacier tours, chartered fishing for all major sportfish, and whitewater rafting.

Riddle Fishing Lodge

These lodges are located a quick 10 minute drive from downtown Kenai and are on the banks of the Kenai River. Each cabin sleeps between four and six and comes with a kitchen, bath, and TV. A covered barbeque area is also offered to cook up your catch as well are hip waders, raingear, and fishing poles for bank fishing. The lodge offers several guided services as well, including salmon, rainbow, and halibut trips as well as fly-in trips.

  • 5 Salmon Trips/6 Nights – $1,355
  • Can subsitute a salt water halibut trips for $50
  • Prices for fly-in trips range from $250 to $400

Salmon Catcher Lodge

Salmon Catcher Lodge is located in a wooded area halfway between Kenai and Soldotna. It holds 30 people normally and is capable of holding 36 for a corporate outing. Rooms with a single bed, king bed, and bunk bed are available and all have access to living and dining rooms, lazy-boys, steam showers, heated floors, a full size kitchen, outside fire pit, gas grills, fish storage freezers, and a 60-foot wraparound deck on the main lodge. They also offer a weekly barbeque and fire and clean and vacuum the first 50 pounds of fish free (after this it costs $1.25/lb). Guides provide all fishing equipment, but if you want to bankfish on your own they also provide rods and reels to rent. They also offer fly-out fishing and bear viewing.
